Bayonet & Black Horse Golf Club overview
Located north of Monterey along the Pacific Coast Highway and in the small city of Seaside, Bayonet and Black Horse is steeped in military history. Established in 1954 and constructed on the land of an old US Army training facility, the Bayonet Course was the first to open and was followed by Black Horse in 1964, resulting in a scenic and challenging 36 holes of golf.
Extensive practice facilities include a 66,000 sq. ft. driving range, two short game areas, and a practice bunker. The 10,000 sq. ft. putting green offers incredible views overlooking Monterey Bay. Inside the clubhouse, the Bayonet Grill offers a pre-or post-round spot to grab a bite to eat and a drink with fantastic views in a relaxed atmosphere.
Golf courses at Bayonet & Black Horse Golf Club
Black Horse Course
Built to complement the Bayonet Course, the Black Horse Course opened in 1964. Considered to be the more playable of the two, the Black Horse features slightly wider fairways and less penal bunkers but has more difficult greens. The layout plays 7024 yards from the tips over natural terrain and through oak and cypress-lined fairways. Golfers will enjoy the scenic overlooks of Monterey Bay throughout their round.
Designed in 1954 by the Commanding Officer of the post at Fort Ord, Bayonet was made as a left-handed slicer's dream. McClure was notorious for his severe slice so the design here plays his shot well, with holes from 11 to 15, known as “Combat Corner” all having sharp doglegs left. The fairways are beautifully lined with oak and cypress trees while the Monterey Bay can be viewed from numerous spots throughout the course.
